What's the timezone history of Bandung?
Bandung keeps Western Indonesia Time along with Jakarta and the rest of Java's west. At around 107.6 degrees east it lies close to the zone's reference meridian, so the civil clock and the sun stay within about ten minutes of each other, a closer match than at either far end of the long zone. The country has never adopted daylight saving, so the highland city's early equatorial sunrises and sudden tropical dusks fall at much the same clock times throughout the year.
What are the working hours in Bandung?
A dense concentration of universities, led by the Bandung Institute of Technology, gives the city a young population and a working culture tilted toward design, software, and the creative trades alongside its older textile mills. Office hours run broadly 08:00 to 17:00. Weekend visitors pour in from Jakarta, so the hospitality and factory-outlet economy runs hardest from Friday evening through Sunday. Ramadan shortens the working day, and the Eid holidays form the longest annual break, when much of the student population leaves the city.
Where is Bandung?
Bandung is the capital of West Java, set in a highland basin around 760 metres above sea level and ringed by volcanic peaks, which gives it a cooler climate than the coastal lowlands. The metropolitan area holds close to 9 million people, around 140 kilometres south-east of Jakarta and now linked to it by high-speed rail. The Dutch developed it as a hill retreat, and it hosted the 1955 Asian-African Conference that gave its name to the non-aligned movement.
