Indianapolis has an unusual timezone history. The state of Indiana sat across both Eastern and Central time for decades, with much of the central and northern part using Eastern Standard Time year-round (no DST) while parts of the south-west and north-west used Central Time with DST. In 2006 the state adopted a uniform daylight saving schedule, with most counties (including Indianapolis) on Eastern Time and the south-western and north-western corners on Central. The state still has internal zone boundaries that produce one-hour shifts at certain county lines.
