What's the timezone history of Las Cruces?

Las Cruces observes Mountain Time alongside the rest of New Mexico. Texas immediately east at El Paso also uses Mountain Time for that stretch of the state, despite most of Texas being on Central. The federal DST schedule applies. The shared zone with the substantially larger El Paso metropolitan area immediately south makes the El Paso-Las Cruces cross-border commercial relationship operationally simpler than a typical international border crossing. Mexico's Ciudad Juรกrez also uses Central Time but, since 2022, without DST, producing a seasonal one-hour offset.

What are the working hours in Las Cruces?

New Mexico State University, the White Sands Missile Range and related defence employment, healthcare, and agriculture (pecans, chile peppers, dairy) anchor the working economy. Office hours run 08:00 to 17:00. The substantial Hispanic-American population (the city's metropolitan area is majority Hispanic) sustains cultural traditions including the Day of the Dead in early November and the late-October Whole Enchilada Fiesta. Las Cruces shares the broader New Mexico Independence Day equivalent of Statehood Day (6 January) and the federal calendar.
