Mendoza keeps Argentina Time at UTC-3 like the rest of the country, but its far-western longitude, near 68.8 degrees west, leaves it well out of step with the sun: solar noon does not arrive until well after one o'clock by the civil clock, and later still through the long summer evenings. The western provinces once kept an earlier offset and have periodically argued for returning to one, but the single national clock has held, giving Mendoza some of the latest daylight in the country.
